About the position

The Research Analyst at Foley & Lardner LLP is responsible for providing high-quality legal and non-legal research and analysis to support the firm's knowledge, business, and practices. This role involves creating and delivering actionable work products, monitoring service requests, and managing departmental workflow across various time zones. The position emphasizes the use of current and emerging technologies, particularly in the realm of intellectual property research, and requires collaboration with team members to enhance knowledge management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for successful and timely completion of legal and non-legal research projects submitted by firm members.
  • Utilize current and emerging technologies such as prompt engineering for both extractive and generative AI tools.
  • Perform comprehensive intellectual property research, particularly in patent and IP related due diligence.
  • Monitor incoming service requests to ensure a high level of service to the firm.
  • Keep Manager informed of the necessity for changes or additions to online search services based on current research.
  • Communicate workflow issues and request updates effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with team members on awareness and advocacy efforts.
  • Educate firm members on legal technologies and knowledge management best practices.
  • Identify best practices and sources of useful knowledge by staying updated on research resources and trends.
  • Bill and submit time entries efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Graduate degree in Information Science, Business or JD preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Intellectual Property research experience in a consultative role in a law firm required.
  • Solid understanding of the legal client/matter lifecycle required.
  • Experience as a practicing attorney, paralegal, or in knowledge management preferred.
  • Advanced computer/technical skills and experience with complex online research tools and platforms strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office, Teams, and other applications strongly preferred.
