About the position

The Research Analyst at Research For Action (RFA) plays a vital role in executing and supporting various research projects, focusing on quantitative and mixed-methods education research. This position involves data collection, management, analysis, and project management, with opportunities for mentorship and skill development in research methodologies. The role is remote-first but requires the candidate to be within commuting distance to Philadelphia for in-person responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic-to-moderately complex data collection, preparation, management, and analysis tasks for mixed methods research studies.
  • Synthesize findings and produce visuals in R, Stata, Excel, and Canva, generating internal analytic memos with coherent results.
  • Support the application of culturally responsive and community-informed research approaches.
  • Stay informed about emerging research, methodologies, theories, and current events related to racial equity and social justice in education.
  • Manage own plate of work across projects and support project activities utilizing project management software.
  • Supervise an intern, providing mentoring, coaching, and support.
  • Participate in and demonstrate investment in the success of RFA research, community engagement, and intra-organizational activities.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of research experience in applied research settings, including in-person and virtual data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated passion for equitable education and interest in growing mixed methods applied education research skills.
  • Dedication to RFA's mission and understanding of core concepts related to racial equity and social justice.
  • Ability to conduct basic to moderately complex quantitative dataset cleaning and statistical analysis with moderate independence.
  • Experience with statistical software packages such as Stata, SPSS, SAS, or R.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python or JavaScript and programming surveys in Qualtrics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with critical race approaches to quantitative research (e.g., QuantCrit).
  • Experience with qualitative data collection, transcription, coding, and analysis.
  • Experience with qualitative software packages (e.g., Dedoose, NVivo).
