About the position

The Research Analyst position at the Upjohn Institute involves conducting applied research projects related to regional and community development initiatives. The role includes statistical analysis of socioeconomic data, participation in interviews and focus groups, report writing and editing, and contributing to public policy development. The analyst will engage in economic analyses at various levels and communicate findings through written content, data visualizations, and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research projects related to regional and community development initiatives.
  • Download and analyze socioeconomic data using statistical methods.
  • Participate in interviews and focus groups to gather qualitative data.
  • Write and edit reports, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Format large documents and contribute to literature reviews and methodology development.
  • Engage in public policy development and applied economic analyses at local to national levels.
  • Create data visualizations to effectively communicate research findings.
  • Occasionally present research findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in economic development, planning, economics, statistics, or related fields.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in applied research or economic development is preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills and knowledge of statistical methods and econometric methods.
  • Practical experience in editing and document formatting, preferably with professional software.
  • Experience with at least one statistical programming language, preferably Stata.
  • Basic understanding of socio-economic data and data processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of data analysis and attention to detail.
  • Experience with writing technical research reports and literature reviews is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of R, IMPLAN, REMI, GIS, Python, SAS, or other programming languages.
  • Proficiency in qualitative research, project management, and evaluation.
