We are looking for a Research Analyst to provide analytical support to our Specialty Polymers R&I and manufacturing operations at Syensqo. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of routine and complex analytical procedures in the analysis of polymers, composite materials, and raw materials. This role involves supporting best practices in either our thermal or rheology laboratory, operating and maintaining analytical equipment, and working as a member of a quality control team. The role also includes supporting our current ISO quality system and participating in external and internal audits.

Responsibilities

  • Safely perform a variety of routine and complex analytical procedures, including handling hot objects or hazardous chemicals.
  • Meet HSE requirements and maintain a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Perform specific analyses depending on the lab focus: capillary rheology, dilute solution viscosity, melt flow, solution rheology, Karl Fischer titration for the Rheology Lab; and DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA for the Thermal Lab.
  • Demonstrate strong computer skills with the ability to collect, organize, and interpret data.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and coordinate maintenance through equipment vendors.
  • Understand quality system requirements, such as ISO 17025 and/or ISO 9001.
  • Follow strict ASTM and ISO testing standards for thermal and rheological testing and reporting.
  • Apply statistical techniques to monitor testing performance and other duties as assigned.
  • Write and follow laboratory SOPs, record and interpret test results, report data into LIMS system, and communicate with internal customers.
  • Routinely maintain and clean laboratory facilities and equipment, perform 5S and housekeeping duties as required.
  • Maximize technical activities to improve efficiencies and minimize backlog/workload.
  • Participate in lab alignment initiatives and proficiency testing to demonstrate competencies.
  • Complete routine work without supervision and complex work under limited supervision.
  • Participate in safety audits and safety meetings, proactively identify safety-related issues, and initiate appropriate actions.
  • Follow both written and verbal instructions and provide full, complete, and accurate documentation of all work as required by LTMs, SOPs, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Material Science Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in analytical testing lab.
  • Knowledge of analytical lab equipment operation, maintenance, and safety (DSC, TGA, TMA, DMA, MFR, Capillary Rheology, etc).
  • Proficient in interpretation of data collected from analytical material characterization techniques, specifically thermal and rheological properties.
  • Strong mechanical skills and ability to perform manual tasks required for daily operations, including standing and working with chemicals for extended period of time.
  • Skilled with computers and software systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, LIMS, and Google Workspace.
  • Higher tier computer skills are desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Regular engagement with internal customers is required.
  • Must be self-driven, organized, capable of prioritizing tasks, and managing time effectively in a high throughput laboratory environment.
  • Passion for safe practices while working in an analytical laboratory.
  • Work effectively with others and demonstrate a positive teamwork approach, regularly interface with internal customers.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to critically evaluate data, identify patterns, and solve problems.
  • A proactive approach to troubleshooting and the capacity to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges are highly desired.
  • Adaptable and flexible with an eagerness to learn and a strong commitment to personal growth and development.
