About the position

The University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Research Analyst to support the data reporting needs of the Office of Enrollment Management (EM). This position plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining data extracts, queries, reports, statistical models, and visualizations. The analyst will utilize advanced analytical tools to inform decision-making processes related to recruitment, admissions, scholarships, financial aid, enrollment, retention, and graduation. The role requires producing both routine and ad hoc internal and external reports, ensuring compliance with the highest ethical standards and integrity in data presentation. As a functional expert in enrollment data, the Research Analyst will offer recommendations for research strategies that provide valuable information for campus planners and decision-makers. The position involves researching, collecting, analyzing, forecasting, and communicating findings to colleagues within the University. The analyst will employ predictive modeling methods to identify patterns in historical and transactional data, assessing risks and opportunities related to student borrowing, funding of scholarships, and campus employment. Additionally, the Research Analyst will be responsible for running reports on the spending of campus-based funds, scholarships, institutional awards, and federal work-study programs. They will ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of released data, develop and communicate results of audit reports to identify and resolve instances of non-compliance with regulations, and assist with the development of EM dashboard reports to aid strategic planning. The position is hybrid, allowing for up to one day of remote work per week.

Responsibilities

  • Support the data reporting needs of the Office of Enrollment Management (EM), including data related to Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data extracts, queries, reports, statistical models, and visualizations using advanced analytical tools.
  • Produce routine and ad hoc internal and external reports, ensuring compliance with ethical standards in data presentation.
  • Serve as a functional expert and resource for enrollment data, offering recommendations for research strategies.
  • Research, collect data, analyze, forecast, and communicate findings to colleagues within the University.
  • Utilize predictive modeling methods to identify risks and opportunities in historical and transactional data.
  • Predict the probability of outcomes related to student borrowing and funding of scholarships.
  • Run reports on spending of campus-based funds, scholarships, and federal work study.
  • Review data requests to ensure authorized recipients are aware of student privacy protections.
  • Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of released data.
  • Develop, run, and communicate results of audit reports to identify and resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on specific EM initiatives.
  • Lead and assist with research projects related to the full EM student life cycle.
  • Assist with the development of EM dashboard reports and projections/analyses.
  • Utilize ServiceNow to respond to and track data requests from EM and other departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or related field and two (2) years of experience with data analytics.
  • A Master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or related field will be accepted in lieu of experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in data analytics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Enrollment management in higher education.
  • Knowledge of quantitative data management and analysis of large data sets.
  • Familiarity with ProSam and Qualtrics.
  • Experience with statistical and/or predictive modeling.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, SAS, STATA, and/or R.
  • Experience with visualization and reporting software (SSRS, PowerBI, MicroStrategy and/or Tableau).
  • Knowledge of quality assurance for data sets and forms.
