About the position

The Research and Committee Analyst position at the Colorado Legislative Council Staff involves providing essential support to legislative committees during sessions and special study committees during interim periods. The role requires conducting research, assisting committee chairs, and producing high-quality research memoranda and issue briefs to inform state legislators and the public. Analysts must work nonpartisanly in a politically charged environment, ensuring objective information dissemination.

Responsibilities

  • Provide staff assistance to legislative committees during sessions and special study committees during the interim.
  • Assist committee chairs with agendas and research issues related to committee work.
  • Respond to inquiries about committee activities from legislators, lobbyists, government officials, and the public.
  • Attend all committee meetings, create meeting minutes, and record votes.
  • Analyze, research, and write high-quality research memoranda and issue briefs on policy areas of interest.
  • Research and write portions of the 'Blue Book' voter guide on statewide ballot measures.
  • Assist with constituent requests and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Strong research and policy analysis skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely about complex topics.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for public speaking and interactions with legislators.
  • Ability to work in a nonpartisan manner in a partisan environment.
  • Strong individual initiative and work ethic.
  • Effective time and workload management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly understand and absorb new information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Colorado law, state government operations, and budgeting.
  • Experience in public policy and legislative processes.
