About the position

The Research & Development Analyst role at GEICO is crucial for driving innovation and analytics within the auto insurance industry. This position involves creating and supporting various insurance products, collaborating with multiple business departments, and leveraging complex data analysis to inform strategic decisions. The analyst will work both independently and as part of a team to explore data, develop new modeling techniques, and contribute to project-related communications, all aimed at enhancing GEICO's competitive edge.

Responsibilities

  • Create and support multiple types of insurance products.
  • Assist different business departments including Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, and Advertising to achieve their business goals.
  • Interact with commercial-grade databases in cloud or local environments.
  • Generate large-scale data and translate it into business values.
  • Perform data exploration and R&D independently and collaboratively.
  • Work with cross-functional business and technical teams on business and analytical innovation.
  • Contribute to project-related communication.
  • Try new modeling techniques and derive new metrics.

Requirements

  • Proficient in R (Python is a plus).
  • Knowledge of SAS and SQL.
  • Experience with cloud databases.
  • Proficient in Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, charts, and graphing.
  • Ability to analyze data using statistical, mathematical, or data mining methods.
  • Knowledge of insurance rating products and principles.
  • Familiarity with Claims, Underwriting, Marketing, or Agent experience.
  • Experience in process control and project management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or related quantitative and analytics fields (for R&D Analyst II).
  • PhD degree in relevant fields (for R&D Analyst III).
  • Minimum of 2 years of analytical experience (for R&D Analyst III).
