About the position

The Research and Development Scientist at Koroseal Interior Products is responsible for driving innovation and developing new products while improving existing ones. This role involves conducting research, formulating new products, performing tests, and collaborating with experts to streamline product requirements. The position is based in Louisville, KY, and reports to the Technical Director, requiring occasional travel to other facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Steer the Research and Development function under the leadership of the Technical Director.
  • Lead new product development efforts by evaluating, qualifying, and specifying materials and products for innovations.
  • Manage the development of product certifications and technical qualification of materials and new products.
  • Design and execute lab experiments and pilot them through scale-up procedures.
  • Work with operations for successful trials and ensure mandatory lab work in I2M and Capex processes.
  • Define and plan required experiments in collaboration with the Technical Director.
  • Record, document, and provide feedback on observations and test results.
  • Document results in the form of status reports, presentations, or product design packages.
  • Manage project workstreams and coordinate work packages as a project manager.
  • Ensure the development of laboratory infrastructure regarding new technologies with the Technical Director.
  • Document and represent the chemical-technological potential of the lab through presentations and poster sessions.
  • Attend training to develop additional competencies and application development knowledge.
  • Ensure Freedom to Operate (FTO) during process development and safe handling of chemicals according to ESHA guidelines.
  • Report safety deviations and essential sustainability measurements for new product development.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with relevant application development experience of 5 years.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory or R&D setting.
  • Experience with materials science including coatings, adhesives, inks, and polymer films.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality control processes in the chemical industry.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing setting, preferably web processing such as printing, packaging, or converting.
  • Experience in development, validation, and commercialization of new products.
  • Ability to work responsibly and independently.
  • Business experience with an entrepreneurial spirit and cost awareness.
