About the position

The Research and Evaluation Associate at Safe Horizon plays a crucial role in advancing operational and programmatic excellence by centering client dignity and empowerment. The Research and Evaluation Team (R&E) is dedicated to supporting various programs and operations departments within the agency through the implementation of evaluation strategies and quality improvement systems that are integrated into daily operations. The Associate will engage in a variety of tasks, including providing technical assistance and thought partnership on data collection, data systems, data analysis, business intelligence, and reflective practice enhancement. This role is essential in ensuring that Safe Horizon's services are effectively evaluated and improved upon, ultimately benefiting the clients served by the organization. The Associate will report directly to the Director of Research and Evaluation and will collaborate with a team of approximately five other Research and Evaluation staff members. This position requires working closely with all Safe Horizon programs and operations teams to enhance and evaluate services. Additionally, the Associate will engage with external partners, including city agencies, law enforcement, and other service providers, to plan and execute research and program evaluation activities. The role emphasizes a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, utilizing an anti-oppressive lens in all interactions and collaborations. In this position, the Associate will design, lead, and manage various quality improvement, evaluation, and research projects. They will be responsible for setting and maintaining project timelines, actively communicating with teams and partners about challenges and progress, and developing comprehensive reports and presentations of research updates and findings. The Associate will conduct both quantitative and qualitative data analyses, ensuring confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information. Approximately 20% of the Associate's time will be spent on-site at Safe Horizon offices or partner agencies, with minimal weekend or evening work required. The role also includes supporting the development team in grant writing and assisting in the implementation of Safe Horizon's operations and client information databases.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach into work with collaborators and clients.
  • Design, lead, and manage quality improvement, evaluation, and research projects.
  • Set and maintain project timelines in coordination with the Research and Evaluation team and agency.
  • Communicate actively with teams and partners about challenges and progress.
  • Develop reports and presentations of research updates and findings, including user-friendly summaries, tables, figures, and charts.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses containing confidential information.
  • Engage staff and stakeholders in quality improvement, data strategy, evaluation, and research projects.
  • Provide support to the development team in grant writing, including program logic models and evaluation components.
  • Support IT and program leadership in developing and implementing operations and client information databases.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience coordinating program evaluation and/or research, preferably within a nonprofit, human service, or government organization.
  • Experience designing evaluation projects is desired.
  • 2 years of experience working with underserved communities, preferably in services for survivors of violence and abuse, trauma survivors, and systems-involved families.
  • 1 year of experience engaging in anti-oppressive, anti-racist reflection and action.
  • A Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required if other qualifications are met.
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and social justice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain timelines.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative evaluation and research methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence and statistical software packages (SPSS, Power BI, and Tableau preferred).
