About the position

The University of Miami's Department of Medicine, Division of Hepatology, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join the Dr. David Goldberg Research Lab. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in collaborative sponsored research studies across various divisions. The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting multiple liver disease and gastroenterology research studies, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge and patient care. The position requires flexibility in hours, as the candidate will need to adapt to fluctuating schedules based on clinic and procedure days. In this role, the Research Assistant will be responsible for maintaining and preparing clinical research participant binders in accordance with study-specific protocols and departmental policies. The candidate will assist in obtaining and transporting patient specimens, including blood, stool, biopsies, urine, and saliva, ensuring they are properly stored and shipped to the central research laboratory. Additionally, the Research Assistant will help manage the inventory of necessary supplies, prepare kits for study visits, and make reminder calls to study participants. The role also involves redacting medical records and performing other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI). This position is ideal for individuals who can work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance and preparation of clinical research participant binders according to study specific protocols, UM and department policies.
  • Help obtain and transport patient specimens (blood, stool, biopsies, urine, saliva) to be stored and shipped to the central research laboratory.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining stock of necessary supplies.
  • Assist in kit preparation for study visits per protocol, including obtaining necessary supplies and printing study labels.
  • Make reminder calls and place study orders in EMR for study participants per protocol.
  • Prepare and send study samples to labs that require same day shipping per protocol.
  • Support multiple liver disease and gastroenterology research studies by performing a variety of duties.
  • Assist in redacting medical records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the PI.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
