About the position

The Research Assistant 2 position at Oregon Health & Science University involves performing a variety of laboratory procedures essential for research in molecular biology. The successful candidate will engage in techniques such as virus production, primer design, PCR, western blotting, DNA gel electrophoresis, mammalian cell culture, and flow cytometry. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, as the assistant will be responsible for collecting, recording, organizing, and verifying the accuracy of data. Keeping detailed and accurate laboratory records is crucial, and the assistant will tabulate data, perform statistical calculations, and prepare charts, graphs, and reports. The use of software applications to assemble, manipulate, format, and compare sequencing information is also expected, along with querying publicly available databases for genomic information. Additionally, the assistant will assist in the preparation of figures, tables, and reports for publications and grants, and will perform preliminary interpretation of results to ensure consistency with experimental goals. The role also includes performing functional drug screening and/or CRISPR/Cas9 library screens on primary human peripheral blood samples and cell lines. The assistant will be expected to read relevant literature and actively participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions. There may be opportunities to present data in a seminar format and at scientific meetings. Maintaining bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes is another key responsibility, along with ordering chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies. The assistant will operate a variety of instruments and scientific equipment, contributing to the overall success of the research team.
