About the position

The Research Assistant/Analyst position at the University of Utah's Sayu Lab for Biomechanics & Locomotion involves assisting in ongoing studies related to biomechanics and clinical gait analysis. The role focuses on collaborative projects that integrate biomechanics, physiology, engineering, and rehabilitation medicine, primarily under the guidance of Dr. Kota Takahashi. The candidate will engage in data collection and analysis for clinical studies involving individuals with leg amputation and diabetes, foot-ankle muscle function in older adults, and gait biomechanics in prosthetic users.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rigorous scientific experiments and work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of biomechanists, physiologists, clinicians, and statisticians.
  • Conduct biomechanics and physiology testing with a variety of instruments and tools (3D motion capture, force plates, electromyography, ultrasound, metabolic energy analysis).
  • Ensure data quality of biomechanics-related testing.
  • Perform data analyses and write computer code (Visual3D, Matlab).
  • Manage human subjects' data and oversee IRB protocols.
  • Assist with patient recruitment and scheduling.
  • Prepare standardized operating procedures for lab equipment.
  • Troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Train undergraduate and graduate students in lab equipment and analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education).
  • One year of experience in research and analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
