About the position

The Research Assistant/Analyst position at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) offers a full-time opportunity to contribute to the Genitourinary Disease Center, focusing on prostate and bladder cancers. This role is primarily centered around assisting with research data collection, utilizing various clinical data sources to abstract necessary information for operational metrics, clinical research, and publications. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing data entry and ensuring the quality of the data collected. This includes running queries, creating reports, and assisting in the development of data structures to effectively capture research data elements. Additionally, the role involves maintaining work practice documents that outline all data collection activities, ensuring that processes are well-documented and adhered to. The position requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Regular interaction with research personnel is expected, including participation in meetings to discuss project designs and data recording processes. The work environment is primarily office-based, with a focus on data management and analysis. Responsibilities

  • Collect and compile data from a variety of sources, including medical records; will enter data into a PC or laptop.
  • Run queries and reports. Compile datasets for analysis.
  • Edit and maintain work practice documents outlining the process for collection and quality assurance of data.
  • Prepare format for final disposition of data; maintain an internal library on project information resources and final data collected.
  • Work with research personnel in the design and preparation of research projects and in recording data, including attendance at regular meetings with team leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education).
  • One year of experience in research and analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data entry and electronic data capture systems, like REDCap.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with EPIC, medical terminology, and cancer diagnostic terminology.
  • Comfortable engaging with Informatics staff as well as clinicians, communicating effectively.
  • Interest in long-term employment can compensate for lack of experience in these areas.
