About the position

The University of Miami is seeking a Part-Time Research Assistant to join the AMP-IT-UP reading program team, which is dedicated to addressing reading challenges faced by middle school students, particularly those with or at risk for reading disabilities. This position is crucial for the successful implementation of standardized assessments and will require the individual to work closely with students in the Miami-Dade area. The role is temporary, spanning from March 1, 2024, to December 30, 2024, with an hourly pay rate of $18.00. The number of hours worked will vary weekly based on the needs of the schools involved in the program. As a Research Assistant, the individual will participate in training to ensure compliance with standardized assessment protocols, achieving an interrater compliance rate of 95%. The role involves direct interaction with middle school students, where the assistant will implement assessments, coordinate schedules, and represent the program at various meetings and community events. The assistant will also be responsible for rigorous data collection and reporting, ensuring that all data is organized and accurately entered into program data systems such as Excel. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, as it may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some Saturdays, depending on the assessment needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues and students alike. A high school diploma is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor's degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience, particularly in standardized assessment implementation, and must hold a valid Florida driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in training for standardized assessments to achieve interrater compliance of 95%.
  • Implement standardized assessments for middle school students with and at-risk for reading disabilities.
  • Assist in coordinating all assessment schedules.
  • Represent the program professionally at meetings and community events.
  • Ensure rigorous implementation of data collection protocols.
  • Organize timely and accurate data reporting in program data systems such as Excel.
  • Travel to schools to conduct assessments.
  • Provide weekly program and assessment updates to the supervisor and attend program meetings.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some Saturdays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Experience with standardized assessment implementation.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
