About the position

The Department of Computer Science at Kansas State University is seeking a Research Assistant/Associate Professor for a 12-month, non-tenure track position. This role is pivotal in advancing research and teaching activities in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science at the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDS). The successful candidate will engage in a variety of responsibilities that include pursuing, assisting with, advising, and promoting research initiatives within the center. The position entails a significant commitment to research, with 40% of the role dedicated to initiating, implementing, and leading collaborative research projects alongside other faculty members at CAIDS. The candidate will also assist faculty with ongoing research efforts and provide strategic advice on the vision and execution of current and future research projects. Additionally, 20% of the role focuses on identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities in collaboration with CAIDS faculty, which is essential for sustaining and expanding research activities. Promoting CAIDS research through internal and external engagements constitutes 10% of the responsibilities, ensuring that the work conducted at the center reaches a broader audience and garners support. Finally, the candidate will spend 30% of their time coaching and co-supervising graduate students engaged in research on artificial intelligence and data science, fostering the next generation of researchers in these critical fields.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue, assist with, and advise on research at the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDS) related to artificial intelligence and data science.
  • Initiate, implement, and lead research in collaboration with other CAIDS faculty.
  • Assist other CAIDS faculty with their ongoing research.
  • Provide advice on the vision and conduct of current and future research projects.
  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities in collaboration with CAIDS faculty.
  • Promote CAIDS research on artificial intelligence and data science through internal and external engagements.
  • Coach and co-supervise graduate students doing research on artificial intelligence and data science.

Requirements

  • Completed coursework towards a PhD (All But Dissertation - ABD) in a related area.
  • Substantial research background in artificial intelligence and data science (preferred qualification).
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
