About the position

The University of Cincinnati's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant to join a dynamic team dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine through diverse approaches. This position is integral to the department, which comprises accomplished physicians, research scientists, clinical laboratory scientists, and administrative, technical, and clerical staff. The Research Assistant will conduct experiments and meticulously document data in accordance with established research protocols. This role requires a strong commitment to scientific integrity and attention to detail, as the candidate will analyze data, assess its validity, and perform statistical and graphical data analysis when necessary. In addition to data analysis, the Research Assistant will assist in managing and caring for the laboratory's animal colonies. This includes genotyping and monitoring the physiological performance of animal models, as well as maintaining various transgenic mouse lines within the lab. The candidate will also be responsible for the preoperative and postoperative care of research animals, ensuring their well-being throughout the research process. Furthermore, the role involves managing fibroblast cell cultures, isolating cardiomyocytes, and conducting left coronary artery ligation procedures to create myocardial infarction models. The Research Assistant will apply research principles to less complex tasks and undertake additional duties as required by the department to meet its evolving needs. Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments and meticulously document data following research protocols.
  • Analyze data, assess its validity, and perform statistical and graphical data analysis when necessary.
  • Assist in managing and caring for the laboratory's animal colonies, including genotyping and monitoring the physiological performance of animal models.
  • Maintain various transgenic mouse lines within the lab.
  • Take responsibility for the preoperative and postoperative care of research animals.
  • Manage fibroblast cell cultures, cardiomyocyte isolations, inductions, and in vitro cell culture.
  • Conduct left coronary artery ligation procedures to create myocardial infarction models.
  • Apply research principles to fewer complex tasks.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the department to meet its evolving needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
