About the position

The University of Cincinnati, a leading urban public research university, is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for the Division of Hematology and Oncology within the College of Medicine. This position is based in the Leukemia and Drug Development Laboratory (LDDL), which is dedicated to advancing research in hematological malignancies. As a Research Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the laboratory's research efforts. Your responsibilities will include documenting and organizing research results in accordance with NIH's good laboratory management practices, coordinating research studies, and making independent contributions to various projects based on evidence-based literature. You will also be expected to perform statistical and graphical analyses of data, maintain project timelines, and assist in the preparation of publications and grant applications. The position requires a strong foundation in molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, and gene editing using CRISPR-Cas9. You will also be involved in the analysis and communication of results from high-throughput sequencing platforms. The LDDL values collaboration and teamwork, and you will share responsibilities for lab maintenance, including inventory management and ordering supplies. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about research and eager to contribute to significant advancements in the field of hematology.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to collective team effort.
  • Document and organize research results and data according to NIH's preferred good laboratory management practices (LabArchives).
  • Assist with the coordination of research studies in hematology.
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on evidence-based literature.
  • Independently work on projects and troubleshoot problems.
  • Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpretation of data, and validity of testing.
  • Maintain timely project goals, deadlines, and studies for contributions to publications and grant funding applications.
  • Apply scientific skills and knowledge to demonstrate technical capabilities of single cell platforms.
  • Analyze and communicate results and data analysis from high throughput sequencing platforms.
  • Share responsibility with other lab members for lab maintenance including possible ordering and stocking of laboratory supplies and maintenance of lab inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
  • Prior research experience in a laboratory setting is highly recommended.
  • Two years+ of in-depth knowledge of translational research laboratory practices.
  • Experience with specialized software (i.e. Microsoft Suite, Labarchives, GraphPad Prism, Endnote).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a clinical or scientific discipline is highly desirable.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as western blotting and functional assays.
  • Familiarity with animal tissue handling and preparation of novel therapeutics for in vivo studies.
