About the position

Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently seeking two Part-Time Graduate Student Assistants to support the grant titled "Supporting business preparation for future shocks: international cases to understand how recovery programs can facilitate adaptation." This position will be under the supervision of Dr. Sahar Derakhshan, Co-Principal Investigator. The role is designed for students who are either currently enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona or are recent graduates, providing them with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a research setting. As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Enterprises offers hands-on training and practical skills development in various fields, including technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership, and research grants. The part-time student assistants will engage in a variety of tasks, including conducting interviews and disseminating surveys to businesses in Los Angeles County. They will also participate in the analysis of collected materials and have the opportunity to publish their findings. This role not only enhances the students' academic experience but also contributes to the broader understanding of disaster recovery and business adaptation strategies in the face of future shocks. The position is part-time and offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $22.50, making it an attractive opportunity for students looking to apply their academic knowledge in a practical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with conducting interviews with businesses in Los Angeles County.
  • Disseminate surveys to gather data from various business types.

Requirements

  • Must be a Cal Poly Student or recent graduate.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Responsible and dependable work ethic.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups including students, faculty, staff, and high-level administrators.
  • Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative.
