About the position

The Research Assistant I position in Burn Surgery at the University of Florida involves technical performance and development of various assays, processing human samples, and managing laboratory data. The role requires collaboration with clinical coordinators and oversight of trainees, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and maintaining accurate records within the laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical assays including processing of human samples and mouse handling.
  • Conduct immunological, molecular biology, and protein assays.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Manage a sample repository and experimental data databases under supervision.
  • Train and oversee trainees in the laboratory.
  • Conduct collaborative research projects and present findings at scientific meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of mouse colonies, laboratory supplies, and instrument maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience, or equivalent education and experience.
  • A high school diploma and two years of experience working in a research or clinical laboratory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with molecular biology and animal handling techniques.
  • Familiarity with regulatory entities such as DEA, NIH, EHS, IACUC, IRB.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
