About the position

The Research Assistant I position at Baylor College of Medicine focuses on supporting cardiovascular research within the Department of Medicine and Cardiovascular Research Institute. The role involves conducting experiments, collaborating with team members, and assisting in the preparation of research manuscripts. The ideal candidate will be motivated and experienced in laboratory settings, particularly in the context of cardiovascular diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments independently while coordinating and collaborating with team members.
  • Collect and analyze results, and report findings to the Principal Investigator.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in maintaining and organizing the laboratory space.
  • Attend regular lab meetings to present preliminary data and engage in discussions about ongoing research.
  • Care for and maintain small experimental animals, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and proper handling procedures.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in writing manuscripts that describe research results for submission to scientific journals.
  • Generate graphs and tables for internal review, as well as for grant applications and publications.
  • Oversee the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, or a health science)
  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques relevant to histology, animal husbandry, and biochemical techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage experiment procedures.
