About the position

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out various behaviorally-oriented and neurobiological research projects utilizing the primate colonies within the Department of Comparative Medicine. This position may be subject to working in biocontainment areas requiring compliance with specific protocols.

Responsibilities

• Help coordinate, collect and conduct behavioral and cognition research, by processing data from activities involving the observation and testing of rhesus monkeys and squirrel monkeys.
• Assist with behavioral management protocols, including training the animals for hands-on testing.
• Identify animals and target behaviors.
• Collect, organize, and summarize data.
• Assist with interpretation of experimental results.
• Record data by video, computer, and by hand; verify data entry; analyze data; and help organize and process reports.
• Organize files and data manually and on the computer.
• Prepare preliminary drafts of specific sections of manuscripts, primarily methods sections.
• Disseminate data from conducted studies.
• Co-author and/or present papers and posters at regional, national, and international scientific meetings.
• Work to achieve Sectional goals.
• Work with other members of the Section of Primate Behavior and Environmental Enrichment to improve the research, behavioral management, and animal healthcare programs.
• Work with students/visitors/interns/residents.
• Attend/assist in coordination of sectional meetings.
• Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards (IACUC/USDA/etc.) during the conduct of research.
• Ensure all supplies required to conduct research are purchased through appropriate vendors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
• No experience required.

Nice-to-haves

• Some experience in scientific or experimental research work.
