About the position

The Research Assistant I position at HJF involves providing technical laboratory support in the En Route & Critical Care Department, focusing on surgical, molecular, and cell biology research related to acute traumatic care. The role includes assisting in laboratory and surgical settings, contributing to research projects, and enhancing skills for more independent work in the future.

Responsibilities

• Assists with research projects as directed and contributes to the design of experiments.
• Collects research samples, ensuring specimen integrity, and analyzes samples while maintaining detailed records.
• Assists with laboratory pre-operative surgical setups and helps with surgical procedures involving small and large animals.
• Provides emergency and post-operative care procedures, including wound management and monitoring of anesthetized animals.
• Maintains organized surgical records and laboratory records of techniques and results for research papers.
• Monitors inventory of laboratory and surgical supplies and prepares solutions for experiments.
• Performs general lab duties and maintenance in accordance with safety standards and procedures.
• Presents data at laboratory meetings and assists with manuscript drafting for publication.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a scientific related field or equivalent experience.
• 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with consideration for HS Diploma with 6+ years or Associate's Degree with 3+ years.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and good communication skills.
• Experience with animal handling, particularly with small and large animal models.
• Ability to assist with surgical procedures and perform some independently.
• Familiarity with routine blood testing and surgical monitoring.
