About the position

The MBL Ecosystems Center is seeking a full-time Research Assistant I or II to support research on biogeochemical transport and processing in watershed-estuary systems recovering from eutrophication. The role involves both field and laboratory work, primarily in estuaries along the Cape Cod coast, and is expected to last from December 2024 to February 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process surface water and groundwater samples.
  • Conduct nutrient analyses.
  • Measure phytoplankton and suspended matter concentrations.
  • Assist with deploying, downloading, and analyzing data from field instruments including current meters, water-level sensors, and multiparameter sondes.
  • Help with basic preparations for field work such as organizing, cleaning, and maintaining gear and small boats.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, geoscience, or environmental science for Research Assistant I; Master's degree for Research Assistant II.
  • Relevant field and research experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel and some experience with R or MatLab programming.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with spectrophotometry, elemental analysis, and automated nutrient analyzers.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment.
