About the position

The Research Assistant I position in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UTHealth Houston involves supporting research projects under the close direction of senior research staff. The role includes conducting various research activities, maintaining laboratory equipment, collecting and interpreting data, and ensuring compliance with research protocols and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research activities according to research protocol under close supervision.
  • Recruit and screen patients for research studies.
  • Perform traditional laboratory experiments and activities.
  • Maintain clean laboratory equipment and work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret research data for principal investigators.
  • Update notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
  • Stay informed about new and updated protocols for the research department.
  • Order laboratory supplies as directed by senior research staff.
  • Coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants as needed.
  • Comply with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • General knowledge of research fields.
