About the position

The University of Michigan-Flint is seeking a Research Assistant I (Temporary) to support a research project under the DEI Centers Project. This project aims to explore the history and role of student activism, administrative leadership, and fiscal decisions in the founding and maintenance of select DEI Centers at the University of Michigan-Flint. The research will be led by Dr. Lisa Lapeyrouse and is funded by the University of Michigan's Inclusive History Project. The position is expected to run from July 2024 through December 31, 2024, requiring approximately 6 hours of work per week. The work schedule will be flexible to accommodate the student's availability. The research assistant will be responsible for interviewing participants, collecting and organizing historical documents and materials, and preparing these materials for preservation. Additionally, the role involves instrument design, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and the presentation and dissemination of research findings. This position is not remote and requires the assistant to work on the UM-Flint Campus. Responsibilities

  • Interviewing participants to gather qualitative data.

  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Presenting and disseminating research findings.

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Research experience in a relevant field.
  • Ability to work at the UM-Flint Campus (not a remote position).
  • Availability for at least 6 hours per week.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior research experience in public health or health sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the Intercultural Center's mission, programming, and clientele.
  • Undergraduate student in good standing with the University of Michigan-Flint.
