About the position

The position involves providing responsible and skilled technical assistance in performing assignments related to medical and scientific research. The laboratory focuses on investigating genetic programs in the brain, particularly how chemical modifications on chromatin regulate brain development and disease. The research technician will analyze novel mouse models of autism using molecular, biochemical, and genomic approaches, and will be trained in all experimental and bioinformatic techniques used in the research. Responsibilities also include mouse colony management and general lab management, requiring efficient organizational skills, attention to detail, accurate record keeping, and effective communication skills. This role is ideal for recent college graduates preparing for graduate or medical school.

Responsibilities

  • Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific fields.
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.
  • Collects and organizes research data for project reports.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required, or
  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment, or
  • Completion of 2 years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment, or
  • High School Graduation or GED with relevant experience.
  • 1 year of research experience at the level of Research Technician or equivalent with Bachelor's degree, or
  • 4 years of research experience including two years at the level of Research Technician or equivalent with 2 years of college, or
  • 6 years of research experience with High School Diploma, or
  • 2 years at the level of Research Technician or equivalent.
