Located in La Jolla, California, our institute is home to six research departments, numerous Nobel laureates, a top-ranked graduate school, and a leading postdoctoral training program. We collaborate closely with the Scripps Research Translational Institute and Calibr to integrate foundational studies in biology, chemistry, and computer science with translational science, aiming to develop pioneering drugs and advancements in digital and precision medicine. The Research Assistant I position is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the field of biomedical research. Under minimal supervision, the successful candidate will perform a variety of standard laboratory procedures, analyze data, interpret results, and troubleshoot methods as necessary. The role may involve assisting in the design of experiments and providing routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Candidates should have a strong interest in molecular biology techniques, including cloning and single-cell qPCR, as well as protein purification. An enthusiasm for cutting-edge technologies such as single-cell characterization, sequencing, and protein engineering is essential. This position requires a team player who is capable of developing their own projects while contributing to a highly interactive lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques and procedures under general supervision.
  • Analyze data and interpret results, providing initial analyses as needed.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures as necessary.
  • Assist in designing experiments to complete segments of the overall research plan.
  • Provide routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and guidance/training to other personnel as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience; candidates with a Master's degree require 0-2 years of experience.
  • Ability to independently conduct standard laboratory techniques and use judgment to adapt methods when necessary.
