About the position

The MBL Ecosystems Center is seeking a temporary full-time Research Assistant I to support research on biogeochemical transport and processing in watershed-estuary systems recovering from eutrophication. The role involves both field and laboratory work in estuaries along Cape Cod, focusing on sample collection and analysis, as well as data management from field instruments.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process surface water and groundwater samples.
• Conduct nutrient analyses.
• Measure phytoplankton and suspended matter concentrations.
• Assist with deploying, downloading, and analyzing data from field instruments including current meters, water-level sensors, and multiparameter sondes.
• Help with basic preparations for field work such as organizing, cleaning, and maintaining gear and small boats.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, geoscience, or environmental science.
• Relevant field and research experience.
• Proficiency in Excel and some experience with R-Programming.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with spectrophotometry, elemental analysis, and automated nutrient analyzers.
