About the position

The Research Assistant I position at The Roskamp Institute focuses on biomarker and drug discovery for neurological illnesses. The role involves conducting experiments related to molecular and cellular neurobiology, particularly in developmental or age-related brain disorders. The candidate will work under supervision and contribute to ongoing research efforts aimed at understanding and finding cures for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments related to ongoing studies of molecular and cellular neurobiology in developmental or aged related brain disorders.
  • Perform basic molecular cell biology experiments such as western blot analysis, ELISA, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and flow-cytometry studies.
  • Characterize laboratory models of different disorders.
  • Follow protocols through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Record and analyze data.
  • Maintain a daily updated laboratory notebook.
  • Ensure clean laboratory equipment and work area for a safe and efficient environment.
  • Perform literature research.
  • Present results to senior or other research staff.
  • Order laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare stock solutions and buffers.
  • Contribute data/findings for use in reports, documents, or oral/written presentations.
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies.
  • Interact collaboratively with other team members to accomplish organizational goals.

Requirements

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in biological sciences or related disciplines is preferred.
  • 1 year of research experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to interact with individuals with varying levels of experience and background.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and multitask.
  • Time flexibility to meet grant/report deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology.
  • Experience performing cell culture studies, enzyme assays, and antibody-based protein analysis.
