About the position

The Research Assistant I position at Loyola University Chicago is a part-time role based in the Department of Physiology on the Maywood-Health Sciences Campus. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant is to support various research projects by performing straightforward laboratory assays and analyses. This includes carrying out experiments as directed by the Principal Investigator and assisting the Principal Investigator, research staff, and students with lab procedures and projects. The role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of research activities and contributes to the overall success of the research team. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in biological or physical sciences or equivalent training acquired through work experience or education. While no prior experience is required, candidates with 1-2 years of job-related experience are preferred. The position requires familiarity with small animal surgery, tissue cell culture techniques, microscopy, immunohistochemistry protocols, and protein biochemistry. Basic computer skills, particularly in Word and Excel, are also necessary for this role. This position is non-exempt and does not involve supervisory responsibilities. The Research Assistant will be expected to engage in direct animal contact as part of their duties, which may include repetitive motions associated with laboratory work. The work environment is dynamic and involves working with animals, contributing to a hands-on research experience that is both challenging and rewarding.

Requirements

  • Basic Word and Excel software knowledge.
