About the position

The Research Assistant II position in the Nassar Lab focuses on Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology, with a particular emphasis on drug development and signaling related to small GTPases. The lab's research is both basic and translational, employing a variety of methodologies such as protein crystallography, biophysical and biochemical studies, and cellular functional assays. The ultimate goal is to identify small molecules that can bind to and modulate GTPase signaling in in vivo models of cancer. This role requires a hands-on approach to conducting experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining laboratory protocols, all while contributing to the overall research objectives of the lab. As a Research Assistant II, you will be responsible for performing experiments and meticulously recording data. This includes following established research protocols, maintaining accurate records of laboratory work, and analyzing data through statistical and graphical methods. You will design and execute daily laboratory experiments in collaboration with senior laboratory personnel, ensuring that techniques and results are reproduced and evaluated for accuracy. Additionally, you will assist in training students and new or junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation. In terms of lab administration, you will troubleshoot and correct any erroneous results or issues with laboratory equipment, maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensure the proper operation and maintenance of standard laboratory equipment. You will also be responsible for maintaining cell cultures and providing safety monitoring checks as assigned, such as radiation safety and biosafety. The role also involves serving as a resource within the department, demonstrating competence in specific knowledge and skills, and effectively communicating with team members to contribute to their growth. You will maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders, responding to requests promptly and understanding customer needs and expectations.
