About the position

The Ratner Research Lab is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant II/III/IV to join our flourishing preclinical testing program focused on Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with animals and thrive in a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating mice models that simulate nervous system diseases and cancers, utilizing histological and molecular techniques to assess the effects of various drug treatments. A flexible work schedule is essential, as the administration of test compounds must be conducted accurately and on time. Effective communication with lab members and pharmaceutical companies is crucial for the success of our research initiatives. In this role, you will perform a variety of experiments and meticulously record data, adhering to established research protocols. You will maintain detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments, analyze data, and conduct statistical and graphical analyses. The position requires designing and executing daily laboratory experiments in collaboration with senior laboratory personnel, ensuring the accuracy of techniques and results. You will also assist in training students and new or junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation. Additionally, you will be responsible for lab administration tasks, including troubleshooting and correcting erroneous results or equipment issues, maintaining an inventory of laboratory supplies, and ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment. You will play a key role in maintaining cell cultures and supporting the daily operations of the laboratory, which includes answering phones and ensuring the organization and cleanliness of the lab environment. Safety monitoring checks, such as radiation and biosafety, will also be part of your responsibilities. As a resource for the department, you will demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors, effectively communicating with team members and contributing to their professional growth. You will maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders, responding to requests promptly and understanding customer needs to meet their expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments and record data following research protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Analyze data and perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel.
  • Reproduce and evaluate techniques and results for accuracy.
  • Assist in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain cell cultures and operate standard laboratory equipment appropriately.
  • Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phones and maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).
  • Demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
  • Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
  • Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • For RAII: High school diploma or equivalent AND 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred).
  • For RAIII: Bachelor's degree in a related field AND 1 year of directly related experience OR Master's degree in a related field.
  • For RAIV: Bachelor's degree in a related field AND 3 years of experience in related job discipline OR Master's degree and 2 years experience.
