About the position

UTHealth Houston is Texas' resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care. As a Research Assistant II, you will conduct activities to support research projects under the general direction of senior research staff. This role requires exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices, ensuring that research activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. You will be involved in various research activities, which may include patient recruiting and screening, traditional laboratory experiments, informatics, and animal laboratories. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining adequate levels of lab supplies, ensuring timely achievement of lab activities, and keeping accurate records necessary for the research project. Additionally, you will monitor laboratory supplies to ensure sufficient inventory and quality of reagents or other supplies. Staying updated on new protocols for the research department is essential, and you may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and support staff to ensure high-quality results. Compliance with all governmental and University policies is mandatory, and participation in continuing education programs may be required. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research activities under general direction according to research protocols.
  • Patient recruiting and screening for research projects.
  • Perform traditional laboratory experiments and activities.
  • Maintain adequate levels of lab supplies to assure timely achievement of lab activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records including notebooks, records, and databases.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects.
  • Ensure quality of reagents or other supplies used in research.
  • Stay abreast of new and updated protocols for the research department.
  • Coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and support staff as needed.
  • Comply with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • One year of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment.
  • General knowledge and some detailed concepts of the research field assigned.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with patient recruiting and screening.
  • Familiarity with laboratory experiments and informatics.
  • Ability to coordinate work among team members.
