About the position

The Research Assistant II position at UTHealth School of Public Health in Edinburg, TX, involves supporting various research projects focused on tuberculosis (TB) and its epidemiology, particularly in communities along the Texas-Mexico border. The role includes overseeing participant enrollment, ensuring high-quality data collection and entry, and providing training and support to field teams. This full-time position is integral to advancing research in public health and improving diagnostic tools for TB in low-income settings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research activities under general direction, overseeing field interviewers in participant recruiting and screening, data collection, entry, and quality control.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of field interviewers, providing feedback and organizing workshops to ensure protocol consistency.
  • Supervise field teams to maintain participant enrollment and follow-up visits.
  • Monitor data entry by field teams, ensuring timely and quality results, and coordinate weekly meetings to address challenges.
  • Identify trends or deviations in data collection, performing quality analysis and summarizing data for team presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities, including data entry, protocol deviations, and training records.
  • Monitor field inventories and communicate supply needs to the field team.
  • Maintain continuous communication with the field team to track progress and resolve issues.
  • Comply with all governmental and University policies and regulations.
  • Participate in training programs and encourage field team participation in continuing education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • One year of related experience, with the possibility of substituting experience with additional education.
  • Certification for Protection of Human Research Subjects required within 5 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual; ability to communicate in Spanish.
  • Eager to learn and open to new ideas related to tuberculosis, diabetes, and aging.
  • Self-disciplined, organized, and reliable in work quality and schedule.
  • General knowledge of data entry and tracking, with intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with data tracking platforms such as SAS and RedCAP.
