About the position

The Research Assistant II position at Loyola University Chicago involves supporting the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in various research-related tasks. The role focuses on managing IRB/IACUC submissions, assisting with grant submissions, maintaining research documentation, and facilitating research meetings. The assistant will also be involved in patient screening, data management, and training medical students, contributing to the overall research efforts within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize and track IRB/IACUC submissions for new studies, amendments and continuing reviews.
  • Prepare, organize, review and assist with grant submissions.
  • Periodic review of informed consent documents to ensure proper execution.
  • Maintain department research administration documents.
  • Maintain a list of current resident and faculty research publications.
  • Design and format research databases.
  • Input, organize and clean data.
  • Prepare and submit clinical research database requests and data use agreements.
  • Perform literature searches and organize/synthesize search results.
  • Screen patients, recruit for studies, and obtain informed consent as directed by the study PI.
  • Assist in preparing research findings for reports and presentations.
  • Maintain secure shared files for project documents and data management.
  • Coordinate monthly research meetings for clinical subdivisions within the department.
  • Format, edit and submit scientific manuscripts.
  • Assist in training medical students in research-related tasks.
  • Organize logistics for annual research courses for interns and summer medical students.
  • Assist with research-related reimbursements.
  • Obtain quotes and order supplies for research projects.
  • Maintain and store study documents properly.
  • Track and ensure compliance with CITI training requirements.
  • Incorporate new information/processes/techniques into research operations with approval from the Clinical Research Director/Chair.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Principal Investigators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological or Physical Sciences (required).
  • Master's Degree (preferred).
  • 1-2 years of previous job-related experience (required).
  • 3-5 years of previous job-related experience (preferred).
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn new challenging skills.
  • Experience with data management and/or database design (preferred).
  • Basic computing skills.
