The Research Assistant position in the Department of Entomology at the University of Georgia is designed to support Dr. Joseph's research program focused on Turf and Ornamentals in Georgia. The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will include processing samples in the field, which encompasses planting, maintaining, harvesting, and processing field studies. Additionally, the assistant will be involved in laboratory work, where they will process, sort, and inspect plant samples for diseases and insect damage. Data collection and entry are critical components of this role, as accurate data is essential for the research outcomes. The Research Assistant will also make frequent visits to trial plots to observe and record data on insect and production activity, ensuring that all relevant information is captured for analysis. Moreover, the position requires the maintenance of state vehicles used for research purposes, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order. The Research Assistant will also assist in data entry and support faculty with related publications and printed materials, contributing to the dissemination of research findings. Requirements

  • Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with or without supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
