About the position

The Research Assistant position in the laboratory of Jacob Greenberg, MD at the University of Washington offers a unique opportunity to engage in research projects that aim to advance the understanding and treatment of various neurosurgical conditions, including cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy, Chiari malformations, craniovertebral junction disease, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. This role is integral to the research team, providing essential support in conducting experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining laboratory operations. As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for conducting research experiments and assays, evaluating results, and reporting findings to the team. You will also perform data entry and maintain organized data files related to the research projects. Coordination of tissue cultures, reagents, and probe tests will be part of your duties, along with ensuring compliance with established safety procedures and maintaining documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. In addition to these responsibilities, you will collaborate with other institutions and investigators on research projects, participate in hypothesis development, and assist with literature research on specified topics. The position requires a proactive approach to lab maintenance, including supply and equipment orders, and general upkeep of the laboratory environment. This role is ideal for individuals looking to further their education and experience in a dynamic research setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research experiments and assays.
  • Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff involved.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs literature research on specified topics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience in laboratory operations or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 6 years.
