About the position

The Research Assistant Professor position at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Bioengineering is a full-time faculty role focused on advancing research in developmental and cell mechanobiology while also contributing to undergraduate education. The position requires a PhD or equivalent degree and over five years of postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate will engage in both independent and collaborative research, manage undergraduate programs, and oversee educational responsibilities, including mentoring students and managing teaching assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in developmental and cell mechanobiology.
  • Develop and apply cell biological manipulations integrated with biomechanical studies of morphogenesis.
  • Write grant applications to secure funding for research projects.
  • Publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific meetings.
  • Assist in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Oversee laboratory staff performing experiments.
  • Manage undergraduate program responsibilities, including ABET requirements and course scheduling.
  • Coordinate undergraduate events, retreats, and conferences.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biomedical sciences, or closely related disciplines.
  • More than five years of postdoctoral experience in relevant research fields.
  • Substantial experience in undergraduate education and STEM education pedagogy.
  • Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
