About the position

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor of Animal Nutrition. This is a 12-month non-tenure-track research appointment at the Agricultural Research Station, College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology, located in Fort Valley, Georgia. The successful candidate will be expected to address critical and emerging issues in the field of ruminant nutrition, which includes improving the nutritional content of livestock products, reducing the environmental footprint in climate-smart livestock management, exploring alternative feedstuffs, and assessing the role of nutrition in the wellbeing and health of animals. The position requires the development and establishment of a competitively funded independent research program, as well as advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for recruiting students for the animal science program, serving on institutional committees, and providing services to professional organizations, the University, and the community. The Research Station is committed to addressing the challenges faced in ruminant nutrition and seeks a candidate who can contribute to this mission through innovative research and collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate research excellence in the area of ruminant nutrition and possess the ability to generate external funding. Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues in teaching, research, and extension are essential for success in this role. The working conditions for this position are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with travel as required. The candidate must be able to work outdoors under variable environmental conditions as necessary for research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish a competitively funded independent research program in ruminant nutrition.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the animal science program.
  • Recruit students for the animal science program.
  • Serve on institutional committees related to the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology.
  • Provide services to professional organizations, the University, and the community.
  • Address critical and emerging issues in ruminant nutrition, including improving nutritional content and reducing environmental impact.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition or a related field.
  • Demonstrated competency in using statistical software.
  • Evidence of research excellence in the area of ruminant nutrition.
  • Ability to generate external funding for research projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with colleagues in teaching, research, and extension.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience beyond the Ph.D. in a relevant field.
