About the position
The University of Arkansas is seeking a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. This full-time position focuses on conducting research, mentoring students, and engaging in scholarly activities. The role is expected to contribute to various research projects, including those related to freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry, and to participate in faculty governance and service activities within the department and the university.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research leading to publication in the field of freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry.
- Engage in creative and scholarly activities related to biological sciences.
- Mentor and evaluate students on scientific research projects.
- Create interest and understanding among students regarding biological sciences.
- Serve on various faculty and student-oriented committees.
- Provide service on campus and in related professional organizations.
- Participate in faculty governance within the department and on campus.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education by the date of initial appointment.
- Five or more years of post-doctoral or professional experience with expertise in freshwater biogeochemistry and ecology.
Nice-to-haves
- An active research agenda or evidence of research productivity including peer-reviewed publications and grant award success in freshwater ecology and biogeochemistry.
- Expertise in analytical chemistry using a rapid-flow analyzer, mass spectrometer, inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, and a laser ablation laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students resulting in peer-reviewed publications or national science meeting presentations.
