About the position

The Research Assistant Professor will lead research, education, and outreach initiatives within the Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems, focusing on aquaculture, fisheries, and ecosystem sciences. This role involves serving as Principal Investigator on grants, supervising staff, publishing research findings, and engaging with stakeholders to enhance educational programs and partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research initiatives in aquaculture, fisheries, and ecosystem sciences.
  • Serve as Principal Investigator on extramural grants.
  • Supervise research and operation staff.
  • Publish research results in scientific journals.
  • Grow educational programs related to sustainable seafood systems.
  • Build partnerships with stakeholders in the marine sciences community.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote research findings.

Requirements

  • PhD in Marine Science, Biology, Aquaculture, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of a post-doctoral research fellowship.
  • Sustained research publication record.
  • Experience with extramural grantsmanship.
  • Experience in finfish, shellfish, and macroalgae aquaculture.
  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative research.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and scientific design.
  • Strong communication, team building, and leadership skills.
  • AAUS Scientific Diving Certification.
  • Captain's License or qualifications to obtain one.
  • Teaching and student mentoring experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Diverse portfolio of successful extramural grantsmanship as lead PI.
  • Outreach and fundraising experience.
  • Experience working with fishermen and knowledge of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem.
  • Experience in spawning and larval rearing of marine pelagic finfish.
  • Experience in aquaculture system design, construction, and management.
  • Experience in translational research and biotechnology.
  • Laboratory experience related to genetics and reproductive biology.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, crane, and/or other large machinery.
  • Knowledge about boat and small engine maintenance.
