About the position

The Research Assistant (RA) plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the laboratory, assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in managing lab activities effectively. This position is essential for ensuring the organization and functionality of the lab, which is crucial for meeting grant deadlines and publication timelines. The RA will report directly to Dr. Sreejith Nair, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology, and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the lab's research objectives. The RA's responsibilities include maintaining accurate records of reagent and instrument purchases, as well as managing the chemical and biological inventory. The role also involves assisting the PI and other lab members in conducting experiments, recording data, and analyzing results. The RA will engage in both laboratory research and managerial activities, collaborating with other lab members to perform experiments, analyze data, and procure research materials. Additionally, the RA will work closely with vendors and the Georgetown purchase department to ensure the accuracy of deliverables, while also striving to produce quality scientific work, publish research papers, and secure grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate record of reagent and instrument purchases, chemical and biological inventory.
  • Assist the PI and other lab members in performing experiments, recording data, and analyzing results.
  • Engage in laboratory research and managerial activities, collaborating with lab members to conduct experiments and analyze data.
  • Work closely with vendors and the Georgetown purchase department to ensure accuracy in deliverables.
  • Perform quality scientific work, publish papers, and acquire grant funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's level training in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 2 years of previous experience as part of a research team in an academic setting.
  • 2 years of previous experience in basic molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and computational biology.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, mentor, and train new members on routine techniques.
  • Working experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to partake in training related to occupational safety and health compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a similar position is a plus.
  • Basic skills in computer programming and/or genomic data analysis are a plus.
