About the position

The University of Florida's Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is seeking a full-time Research Assistant Scientist for a non-tenure-track faculty position. This role focuses on research and development in photonic integrated circuits (PIC), including design, testing, and data analysis. The position is time-limited for one year, with potential for reappointment based on performance and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development on photonic integrated circuits (PIC).
  • Design, develop, and test optoelectronic components.
  • Engage in chip design and foundry collaborations.
  • Perform design technology co-optimization (DCTO).
  • Conduct testing of photonic chips and devices.
  • Analyze data and synthesize research results.
  • Prepare publications and dissemination materials.
  • Assemble and improve lab test environments.
  • Identify and prepare applications for funding opportunities.
  • Mentor team/group members.
  • Support educational missions through laboratory support and workforce development activities.

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ASIC and mixed-signal design for ML/AI applications.
  • Experience in industry or national laboratories.
  • Experience in the DOD or national security ecosystem.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Proven publication record.
  • Proven team mentoring experience.
