About the position

The Research Assistant Scientist position at the University of Florida is a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing role focused entirely on research within the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory. The primary responsibilities include conducting research on mosquito biology and control, particularly regarding the pathogens they transmit, and contributing to public health initiatives in Florida. The role also involves active participation in undergraduate and graduate education, including supervising research and publishing findings with students.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on the biology and control of mosquitoes and the pathogens they transmit.
• Participate in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees.
• Supervise thesis and dissertation research for graduate students.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects.
• Publish research results in collaboration with graduate students.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Entomology or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated laboratory experience in relevant research areas.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish interpersonal relationships and procure extramural funding.
• Commitment to the mission of the Land-Grant system and UF core values.

Nice-to-haves

• Postdoctoral experience in a relevant field.
• Experience with mosquito/vector/arbovirus control research.
