About the position

The Term Research Assistant is a vital role within the Department of Psychology at Vanderbilt University, responsible for supporting laboratory functions and assisting in various research activities. This position reports directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) and indirectly to the Lab Manager, facilitating communication and collaboration with other labs and regulatory staff. The role offers growth potential, with opportunities to advance to more senior positions based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Set up behavioral experiments, including eye tracking and reward delivery systems using Matlab.
  • Work effectively with a team of PhD students, postdocs, and researchers.
  • Perform animal behavior training on cognitive tasks.
  • Maintain animal implants and provide general laboratory support.
  • Keep the PI informed of all relevant lab activities, issues, and potential concerns.
  • Assist with record keeping and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Help schedule procedures and maintain the laboratory calendar.
  • Prepare for procedures and deliver post-procedure care.
  • Assist the PI with lab-related administrative duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
  • Relevant laboratory research experience at least at an undergraduate level is required.
  • Experience with training animals on tasks is preferred.
  • Attention to experimental details is essential.
  • Ability to work in a research team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Anthropology, or Primatology is preferred.
  • Experience with animal behavior training is preferred.
