About the position

The Research Assistant position at Vanderbilt University's Warren Center, Plumley Lab, is designed for a motivated biological scientist to contribute to the Molecular Pharmacology group. This role focuses on conducting high-throughput screening assays for small molecule modulators targeting GPCRs, ion channels, and kinases, with the aim of developing therapeutics for central nervous system disorders. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams within the center, including molecular pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and in vivo rodent pharmacology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in vitro pharmacological experiments independently or as part of a team.
  • Conduct cell-based screening assays.
  • Analyze data to determine the efficacy and potency of compounds using data analysis software.
  • Maintain mammalian cell lines used in screening assays.
  • Develop stable cell lines specific to new target proteins.
  • Prepare DNA/RNA and protein samples and analyze them in routine molecular biology assays.
  • Assist with general laboratory operations, including ordering supplies and consumables.
  • Perform other duties as needed; assist lab members with miscellaneous tasks.
  • Understand and follow pharmacological assay protocols applicable to assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate databases and experimental notebooks of results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field of study is necessary.
  • 2 years' laboratory experience employing mammalian cell culture work is necessary.
  • Hands-on experience of plasmid preparation, transfection, and Western Blotting.
  • Good documentation practices with excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment.
