The Institute for Society, Culture and Environment at Virginia Tech is seeking a dedicated research assistant to contribute to an NIH-funded project focused on understanding the service use, barriers, and needs of persons with dementia and their extended family caregivers. This role is pivotal in recruiting, screening, and scheduling interviews with study participants, specifically family caregivers of individuals living with dementia. The research assistant will conduct telephone interviews, ensuring that the voices and experiences of caregivers are accurately captured and represented. Following the interviews, the assistant will be responsible for preparing comprehensive written summaries that synthesize the findings and insights gathered during these discussions. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of experts in gerontological research, which includes professional staff and students. This position not only offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful research but also to develop skills in qualitative data collection and analysis. The research assistant will be expected to work independently, demonstrating the ability to carry out assigned tasks with limited direct supervision. Additionally, the role may require working evenings and weekends, reflecting the needs of the study participants and the project timeline. This position is part-time and offers a flexible work schedule, with weekly hours ranging from 20 to 30, depending on project demands. The research assistant will also have the opportunity to engage in hybrid work arrangements, allowing for a balance between remote and in-person responsibilities. The role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about research and eager to contribute to a project that aims to improve the lives of those affected by dementia and their caregivers.
