About the position
The Research Assistant will support the project of authoring a history of Scripps College, which is set to be published by 2026. This role involves researching, locating, digitizing, and uploading digital image files for the book, which will cover various aspects of the College's history, including academic departments, athletics, and campus traditions. The position is part-time and temporary, reporting to the Office of Marketing and Communications.
Responsibilities
- Locate and procure images from a list of requested images for the book project.
- Conduct searches for images using online resources and the College's library archives.
- Clear and negotiate rights for the reproduction of images as needed.
- Upload high-resolution digitized images to shared storage in .tiff format.
- Scan and upload non-digitized images to shared storage in .tiff format.
- Develop and execute an organizational structure for image storage, including standardizing file names and creating folders.
- Track information for each image, including title, date, subject identification, and copyright information.
- Support the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in job duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and track information with precise attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with excellent judgment and discretion.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of Photoshop is a plus.
