About the position

The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting clinical trial testing as part of the Rochester General Hospital Research Institute. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about contributing to medical research and improving patient outcomes through scientific inquiry. The Research Assistant will work closely with senior team members, including Research Scientists and Research Associates, to assist in various research projects. This role requires a strong foundation in scientific principles, as well as the ability to follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the integrity of the research conducted. In this full-time position, the Research Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including sample collection, data entry, and analysis. The role involves performing experiments with limited guidance, which necessitates a proactive approach to learning and executing research methodologies. The Research Assistant will also be involved in clinical duties, such as collecting blood specimens, and laboratory duties, including performing microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology assays. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, allowing for a structured work-life balance. The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in a science-related field, with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a similar discipline preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in a related field is also preferred. The Research Assistant must demonstrate strong computer skills and the ability to function effectively under the direction of senior team members. Responsibilities

  • Assists senior team members in conducting research projects, collecting samples and analyzing data.
  • Performs sample collections or experiments with limited guidance of senior team members.
  • Collects data and enters data in databases, with limited guidance of senior members.
  • Analyzes data with limited guidance of senior team members.
  • For clinical duties: Collects blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture according to physician orders applicable to regulations, policies and procedures to ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing.
  • For Laboratory Duties: Performs Microbiology, molecular biology & Immunology assays. Works with mice in some experiments.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in science required for experiment-based duties and preferred for clinical-based duties.
  • Bachelors in Biology, Chemistry or alike science preferred for experiment-based duties.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in related field preferred.
  • Ability to follow training and testing protocols as established within RGHRI.
  • Functions with direction from Research Scientist or Research Associate, Lead.
  • Computer skills essential.
