About the position

The Research Assistant position at the University of Texas at Tyler is a full-time role within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine, specifically as part of the Tx Youth Depression Suicide Research Network (YDSRN). This position is crucial in supporting various research projects aimed at understanding and addressing youth depression and suicide. The Research Assistant will be responsible for a range of tasks that include monitoring participant referrals, following up with participants through calls and emails, and tracking their status throughout the research process. This role requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, as the assistant will also be involved in scheduling participant appointments and managing any cancellations or no-shows. In addition to participant management, the Research Assistant will collect patient information, process documents, and enter data into the appropriate databases. They will be tasked with collecting assessment data from patients during baseline visits and subsequent follow-ups, ensuring that all documentation is submitted according to the research protocol using the REDCap system. The role also involves documenting any adverse events or suicidality incidents and identifying protocol deviations, which must be reported to the Research Coordinator. The assistant will maintain an organized file system, copy assessments, and conduct self-audits of files to ensure compliance with research standards. Providing resources to participants and obtaining necessary certifications for conducting assessments are also key responsibilities of this position. Overall, the Research Assistant plays a vital role in the success of the research projects by ensuring that all participant interactions are handled with sensitivity and confidentiality, and by supporting the research team in various administrative and operational tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor for participant referrals and follow up with participants via calls/emails tracking participant status.
  • Assist with recruitment and screening as needed.
  • Schedule participant appointments and follow up on no shows, cancellations, etc.
  • Collect patient information; process documents and enter information into database.
  • Collect assessment data from patients at the baseline visit and subsequent visits as specified by the research protocol.
  • Submit documentation per protocol in REDCap system.
  • Document adverse and suicidality events.
  • Identify and document protocol deviations as required per protocol.
  • Notify Research Coordinator of participant withdrawals and protocol deviations.
  • Organize file system, copy assessments, and self-audit files.
  • Provide resources to participants as needed.
  • Obtain required certifications for providing assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree relevant to the field of work preferred.
  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal or urgent situations.
